Centre Region History & Culture

The Central Region is one of the ten regions of Cameroon 1 , located in the center of the country. Its capital is Yaoundé , which is also the capital of the country. It has an area of ​​68,953  km 2 2 .

Situation

 

The region is located in the centre of the country, with an average altitude of 200 to 600 metres2 , it borders five Cameroonian regions.

In 2015, the region had 5,000,000 inhabitants 2 and, on a Cameroonian scale, had an average density of 44.9  inhabitants/km 2 6 .

Environment

The region (with the neighbouring Littoral region) is home to an exceptionally rich and well-preserved ecological environment: the Ebo forest , which was considered to be classified as a national park from 2006 to 2012 , then opened up to logging (decision of theJuly 14, 2020), before the government changed its mind (decision of August 2020) 7 .
