The Southwest Region or South-West Region (French: Région du S ud-Ouest ) is a region in Cameroon. Its capital is Buea.[2] As of 2015 , its population was 1,553 ,320. Along with the Northwest Region, it is one of the two Anglophone (English -speaking ) regions of Cameroon

Buea or Buea is a city in Cameroon , capital of the South-West region . Former capital of German Cameroon (1901-1914), British Cameroon (1922-1961) and West Cameroon (1961-1972), it is located in the Fako department at an altitude of 1,000 m at the foot of Mount Cameroon , an active volcano .
The German colonial government, attracted by the cooler climate compared to the tropical heat of Douala, made it the capital of the colony of Kamerun from 1901 to 1914. The German Governor Jesko von Puttkamer had a sumptuous residence built there, a veritable immense castle whose rather Bavarian architecture seems bizarre in this tropical setting . The Governor's Palace , today the presidential residence of the Cameroonian head of state, is a real attraction in this British-style city. Mount Cameroon is also a very popular tourist attraction.
